Now that DMA’s website is launched, we thought giving you an inside look of WHY we serve and what our mission is. Any project or task any person or organization takes on has to answer the basic question of WHY? Let us share a few glimpses into DMA’s WHY……..
Let’s look at the area we serve, when you walk through the streets of Consuelo, Dominican Republic, you meet a vibrant, resilient community of over 70,000 people. You see hardworking families, children playing in the neighborhood, and leaders devoted to lifting up their neighbors even in the midst of the areas of poverty.
But beneath that strength lies a critical gap: access to basic, high-quality medical care.
For far too long, the people of Consuelo have lacked immediate access to adequate primary care and emergency medical facilities. When a child contracts a fever, an elderly parent struggles with chronic hypertension, or a worker suffers an sudden injury, families often face painful choices: travel long, costly distances to regional cities or simply go without the treatment they need.
At Dominican Mission Alliance (DMA), we believe quality healthcare is not a luxury, but a fundamental & essential need. That conviction is the heartbeat of our founding story.
Bridging the Gap: From Vision to Reality
Our journey began with a clear, ambitious long-term vision: after 15 years of bringing short term mission teams to address the medical needs we understand now we were not building long term sustainability and knew changes were needed in our strategies. Our local partners had a vision and devised a plan for building a full-scale, private 3-tier hospital and medical center in Consuelo. A facility of this scale will forever transform regional health, providing diagnostic capabilities, emergency care, surgical suites, and specialized medicine to tens of thousands who currently go underserved.
However, building a major hospital takes time, capital, and extensive infrastructure development. While we actively raise the $4.5 million funds required to bring that long-term facility to life, the medical needs of Consuelo cannot wait.
That is why DMA launched an immediate, crucial phase of our mission: The Health & Life Primary Care Clinic.

The Health & Life Primary Care Clinic
Rather than waiting years for a ribbon-cutting on a complete hospital complex, we took action to solve the immediate crisis. Partnering with local community leaders, we secured a building donated by the Monte de Sion church.
Through an initial $150,000 renovation campaign, we are converting this space into a fully operational primary care clinic.
The Health & Life Primary Care Clinic serves as our operational anchor on the ground, delivering:
- Preventive & Routine Medicine: Regular health checkups, maternal care, and pediatric screenings.
- Chronic Disease Management: Treating diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular health to prevent life-threatening crises.
- Immediate Relief: Providing prescription pharmaceuticals, basic lab diagnostics, and triage before conditions worsen.
Holistic Community Transformation
Our heart for Consuelo goes beyond clinical walls. Healthcare is deeply intertwined with living conditions, nutrition, and dignity. That is why DMA’s work spans interconnected programs that support family health from the ground up:
- Cimientos de Esperanza (Foundations of Hope): Replacing dirt floors in local homes with clean, concrete foundations—drastically reducing parasite exposure, respiratory issues, and disease transmission among young children.
- El Pan de Vida (The Bread of Life): Providing food security and nutritional distribution to vulnerable families.
- La Academia de Maestros (The Masters Vocational Academy): Investing in vocational training and community sustainability to create lasting change.

Without basic healthcare, manageable conditions like hypertension, diabetes, or simple infections quickly become life-threatening emergencies. We serve to establish proactive, preventative care that keeps families healthy and prevents avoidable loss.

Healing goes beyond clinic walls. By pairing medical services with holistic community programs—like replacing dirt floors with concrete foundations through Cimientos de Esperanza—we eliminate root causes of disease and restore dignity to every home we touch.
Why We Need You
The story of Dominican Mission Alliance is not simply about buildings, blueprints, or medical equipment—it is about people. It is about making sure no mother in Consuelo has to choose between feeding her family and getting medical care for her child.
In the beginning of our ministry we felt God’s calling with a theme that “we were blessed to be a blessing” and asked God to use us so we could make a difference. He clearly led us to the DR and now he has called us to take on a God sized task. Our leadership team also has seen God work to help us complete what he calls us to.
